Photo Blogging Challenge: Whatcha Eatin

Ahhh, food pics. Love em or hate em, you choose. I take quite a few of them as I like a little help remembering a particularly tasty one. So I had plenty of options this month.

When we are out at the cabin, we like to cook our steaks right on the fire. My dad will toss them right on the coals but I'm not quite that brave so I use a little piece of steel as a griddle. This was fajita night!
November2019_9260

We had a few days of windy, cold, and wet weather. This Soon Tofu soup really hit the spot.
November_9402

We have a new spot open in town, Union Hall. It's the new big thing we've seen around, basically a food court. koKo Ramen was once a food truck but now have a spot in Union Hall. Another good warm-me-up.

Next up is one of my all time favorites. My buddy, Youngdae, has a truck called Club Sandwich, but don't let the name fool you, he has no sandwiches. A few years ago, he was able to move onto the Magnolia Silos property, if you aren't familiar with Magnolia, Fixer Upper, or the Gainses, it's basically a license to print money. His specialty is the Trashcan Rice Bowl. It's your choice of proteins and sauce with veggies and rice and is about the only thing that gets me near the Silos. He will post on his social media accounts when its SFL, Safe For Locals, to visit.November_9507

I've got a ton of Turkey Day food photos but I'll settle on this one. The prize for finishing the Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot 5K was this delicious cinnamon roll. Worth it!

Bonus: I guess they tried their best!

So there you go. It's December already so I better start snapping some pics. Enjoy the rest of the folks posted up at a lil hoohaa and join us next month.

Photo Blogging Challenge – Liquid (October 2019)

Full disclosure, I forgot the theme this month so I kind of backed into it. Let's see how this goes. :)

I had the opportunity to backpack from the North Rim to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. We were originally just going to camp South Rim and do some day hikes but things fell in place and thanks to some awesome people we were able to secure a Bright Angel backcounty pass on very short notice. The canyon floor feels somewhat otherworldly. This was at our camp site at Bright Angel after the sun had gone beyond the canyon walls.
GrandCanyon2019_8749

Climbing out of the canyon actually proved to be slightly easier. We were in the shade most of the day and there are plenty of rest stops. Still, it was probably the most difficult backpacking trip to date. This is shortly after we crossed the Colorado River via the Silver Bridge you see below.
GrandCanyon2019_8760

After the trip to the Grand Canyon, I had a work trip to Boston. My wife had never been so she came along. I was busy so she did all the site seeing, but we did get to share a nice meal followed by a chocolate martini at Max Brenner's.

A little mid morning pick-me-up between meetings in Boston.

One of our Boston meetings had a fantastic view. I believe that is MIT across the river.

That's five photos, they all contain liquid! I hope to do a little better next month!!!

Photo Blogging Challenge (September 2019): Nature

It's October already but it's still hot in Texas. Another week in the 90F's. I still got out some, even in the heat, as I've been training for my visit to the Grand Canyon that begins Oct 2.

This month's theme was Nature. Let's see what I have.

Our little pond is just about dry but still a better place than the hot pavement for this little guy.

Some more pond visitors trying to find some water in the heat.

Our company picnic took place at the Tulsa Zoo. There were a few animals hanging out that disn't seem to mind the unseasonable weather.
September2019_8057

I took a quick trip to Las Vegas for a conference. Did a little recon on the flight over. I'll be close to here tomorrow.

Almost stepped on this little guy. He seemed thankful I didn't.

There's my five. I'm looking forward to cooler weather around the corner. Take a look at a 'lil hoohaa to see more photos from this challenge. Visit my flickr page for all my adventures.

PHOTO BLOGGING CHALLENGE (AUGUST 2019): THE WRITTEN WORD

The August Photo Challenge over at a 'lil hoohaa was The Written Word. I ended up with an abundance this go round and actually had to choose! Let's get started.

I recently passed the exam for my Technicians license for amateur radio (HAM). My mom is always good at finding hobby/interest related gifts. These are QSL cards from New York in the late 40's. They would have been mailed to a radio contact memorializing the contact and giving the type of equipment, frequency, condition of the signal, etc. used in the contact.

We had a long term tenant move out recently; they left some stuff behind.

The trespass here is the No Trespass. This was not painted on in an official capacity. A new kind of tagging, I suppose.

Spotted in Downtown Tulsa.
August2019_7611

I haven't been geocaching in quite a while but the Geocaching Streak Week challenge intrigued me. That and I apparently still had someone's trackable coin that I would have sworn I had placed a year ago. But no, it was still in my go bag. The was a DNF but a great find nonetheless. And I did eventually find a suitable vessel for the coin.

Is that 5? That's 5. Go take a look at the others over at a 'lil hoohaa and think about joining up.

PHOTO BLOGGING CHALLENGE (JULY 2019): PATRIOTIC

The days keep ticking away; moving faster and faster. Here we are in August already. But, let's talk about July and the Photo Blogging Challenge theme of: Patriotic.

We had a family get together on the 4th. Plenty of food, family, friends, and fun.
04072019_6516

That evening we went down to the river for the city fireworks display. I was just going to enjoy the show so didn't even bring a camera. So these were taken with my phone and merged together.

Mr. Medart is the gentleman that is responsible for restoration of the old Pearl Community Center and getting the monthly bluegrass shindig together 20 years ago. What was impossible to capture on camera is that every musician there had circled the entire auditorium and were playing while he sang.
PearlBluegrass719_1090388

I live outside the city limits and our little community volunteer fire department puts on a top notch fireworks display themselves for a fundraiser. I'd not ever used my GoPro for stills and not even though about Fireworks but I had just watched a tutorial on how to do it so gave it a shot.
Fireworks2019_0040544

The Helen Marie Taylor Museum of Waco History is a bit of an enigma in Waco. It has been closed to the public for regular tours since 1998, but available by appointment. Ms. Taylor is in her 90's and lives in Virginia and rarely comes back to Waco. Some folks got a hold of her and convinced her to hold an open house recently. It was a treat as I had not been in there since grade school. It is in an old school and this is the auditorium. It was well attended and the hope is that she saw enough people to try to get it open regular again.

Photo Challenge June 2019 - Get Out and Play

It's been unseasonably pleasant in Texas this spring. It's been cool and wet so we've been outside quite a bit.

June started off with Cheap trick paying a visit to Waco. We were able to get up close.
BowenMusicFest2019_5774

I finally also got the chance to see Weird Al live and in person!

We left town for a little bit to spend some time with Scouts at the Florida Sea Base.

Our week there ended with a big luau with plenty of food and games.

Photo Blogging Challenge (MAY 2019): Your Month, Your Choice

I think I'm starting to sound like a broken record. May was busy, like the last few months. It was also hard to pick just 5 put here we go:

May is prom time around here. Will and a few of his friends came to our house for dinner and photos before. This is their album cover shot.

Uh oh, I used that prom pic last month. So go look there. Here is a picture of the Biltmore instead, from my trip to North Carolina. NC2019_5268

It's also travel time. Some work and some pleasure. First trip was a conference in Florida. We skipped the host hotel and stayed at an Airbnb. I'll do that again.
FLA_2019_5062

Next up is North Carolina. This one was all fun. We did some hiking in the Dupont State Forest.
NC2019_1090127

And along the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Pisgah National Forest.
NC2019_5228

My friends family had a great house along the Green River. Soaking in it was a great way to both start and end our days.
NC2019_5415

That was May. June is stacking up to be busy too. I hope the picks show up. Flickr has been quite funky since the new owners have taken over.

Photo Blogging Challenge (April 2019): Color makes the world go round

Another month has come and gone. We had plenty of rain for Texas so the colors were quite vivid this year.

It's not spring in Texas until the bluebonnets arrive.
APR2019_4154

We were treated to many colorful skies.
April2019-4190

I spent a few days at a music festival out in the woods. It was quite colorful.
OSMF2019_4235

As were the bands. It was cool to get up close to some of these groups. This is one of Will's favorites, Wild Child.
OSMF2019_4624

Will is just a junior but they are invited to Senior Prom. He went with a group of his friends.
Prom_2019_4027-2April was also the month that I finally met up with the HooHaa in person. PJ came through town and we shared a bite to eat. I think it's funny that two guys that met doing photo challenges didn't take a photo of our meet up. It happened we just can't prove it!

Photo Blogging Challenge (February 2019): Glasses

I had a great plan for this month's challenge then I forgot. Oh, well. I improvised and managed to cull out 5 that I could almost argue equals glasses. I took a lot of photos this month, just not the theme.

Enjoy!

Photo Blogging Challenge (January 2019): Books

I'm traveling and present a relatively uninspired submission for the challenge. Here's hoping for a better time in February.

This is my first Diver's Logbook. I filled it up two years ago. It's fun to go back and look at our adventures.
jan2019_2680
My Great Uncle was a published author. Whenever I find a copy of one of his books, now all out of print, I buy it.
jan2019_2682

They were translated into different languages and sometimes renamed and rebranded into pulp novels to help sales.jan2019_2683

This is one of my favorites. PJ might have some interest in it as it was set on the D&H Canal near Cuddebackville, NY.
jan2019_2696
This is my journal/notebook/daily carry. I've got backpacking trips, shopping lists, a little of everything in this recycled firehose covered journal.
jan2019_2684

This is the way I read most my books now. It's just easier when traveling. Until the batteries die...
